As the trade deadline looms, the Minnesota Twins have made a significant move to strengthen their pitching depth. The team has acquired right-handed pitcher Trevor Richards from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for minor-league infielder Jay Harry.

Richards, who has had a varied career across several teams, has appeared in 45 games for the Blue Jays this season. He holds a 2-1 record with a 4.64 ERA, contributing seven holds and tallying 49 strikeouts against 24 walks. His performance includes a notable .189 opponent batting average, demonstrating his effectiveness against hitters.

This trade marks Richards’ fifth stint with a Major League Baseball team. He has previously played for the Miami Marlins, Tampa Bay Rays, Milwaukee Brewers, and Toronto Blue Jays. Known for his versatility and resilience, Richards brings valuable experience to the Twins’ bullpen.

In exchange for Richards, the Twins have parted ways with Jay Harry, a minor-league infielder who was selected by the team from Penn State in the 2023 draft. Harry has spent parts of two seasons in the minor leagues with the Twins, showing promise but not yet breaking into the major leagues.

To accommodate Richards on the roster, the Twins have designated right-handed pitcher Josh Staumont for assignment. Staumont’s departure opens up a spot for Richards and reflects the team’s strategic shift as they approach the critical final stretch of the season.

With this acquisition, the Twins aim to enhance their pitching depth and bolster their chances as the season progresses. The addition of Richards could prove crucial in the team’s pursuit of postseason success, adding another experienced arm to their bullpen.
