To make room for the addition of Connor Williams, the Seattle Seahawks have executed a mid-August trade with the Cleveland Browns, sending veteran center Nick Harris back to his former team. The trade, which involves a pick swap, has been finalized with both teams announcing the deal.
Under the terms of the trade, the Seahawks will send Harris and a 2026 seventh-round pick to the Browns in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick. This swap results in a net cap saving of $1.295 million for Seattle, according to OverTheCap.com.
Harris, who had previously earned All-Pac 12 honors at Washington, joined the Seahawks on a one-year deal in March. He was brought in to compete with second-year center Olu Oluwatimi for the starting position. Throughout the first three weeks of training camp, Harris and Oluwatimi shared first-team reps.
The situation changed dramatically when the Seahawks signed Connor Williams just before the start of training camp. The addition of Williams indicated the team’s intention to seek an upgrade at the center position. After several weeks of negotiations, and with other teams exploring potential deals for Williams, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald confirmed that Williams had signed with the team on Thursday. This move made Harris expendable.
Harris had a brief stint with the Seahawks, starting in their preseason game against the Chargers and playing 12 offensive snaps before being replaced by Oluwatimi. Following the Browns’ loss of reserve center Luke Wypler to a fractured ankle, Seattle and Cleveland quickly finalized the trade to return Harris to his original team.
During his previous tenure with the Browns, Harris played 522 offensive snaps over four seasons, appearing at both center and right guard with four starts. His time with the Seahawks concludes without having played a regular season game, having only logged preseason snaps. With Harris’s departure, Connor Williams and Oluwatimi are now set to be the primary centers for the Seahawks heading into the regular season.
