NFL insider Peter Schrager reports that former Washington quarterback Colt McCoy is stepping away from the league. McCoy last took the field for the Arizona Cardinals in 2022, making three starts during that season.
McCoy spent six of his 13 NFL seasons with Washington, where he started seven games and often served as the backup quarterback.
Drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft from Texas, McCoy had an initial stint as their starting quarterback. Despite starting 21 games in his first two years, he was replaced by Brandon Weeden, a first-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, which relegated McCoy to a backup role.
Over the next decade, McCoy remained a reliable second-string quarterback across various teams. He is now poised to transition into broadcasting for the upcoming season, a move that seems well-suited given his extensive experience and insight at the quarterback position.
