Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Reid Sinnett is making a move back to the AFC, joining the Cincinnati Bengals after Joe Burrow suffered a calf strain injury, as reported by ESPN’s Ben Baby. Burrow is anticipated to be sidelined for several weeks, possibly missing all of training camp and much of the preseason.
The Bengals announced the signing on Sunday to bolster their depth with Burrow out. Coach Zac Taylor confirmed that the team is preparing for Burrow’s extended recovery time.
Sinnett, 26, has yet to play in an NFL game but was a backup for the Eagles during most of the 2021 season behind Jalen Hurts. He also spent parts of the 2020 and 2021 seasons on the Miami Dolphins’ active roster. Sinnett entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before being claimed off waivers by Philadelphia.
Eagles Wire’s Glenn Erby described Sinnett as having a “big-time arm,” and he showcased his potential during the 2022 preseason, leading the Eagles with two touchdown passes. Despite this, he only completed 52.1% of his throws and averaged 5.3 yards per attempt. He was released after the preseason concluded.
Sinnett also has experience at the Bengals’ stadium, having thrown a decisive 34-yard touchdown pass in a 2021 preseason game while playing for the Dolphins.
With Burrow out, the Bengals’ remaining quarterbacks are Trevor Siemian and Jake Browning.
In other news, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has suggested that the Eagles might consider acquiring Titans quarterback Malik Willis. Knox believes Willis’ skill set would complement Philadelphia’s run-heavy offense and could be developed behind starter Jalen Hurts. Although Willis struggled in his rookie season, his athleticism and potential make him an intriguing prospect. With the Titans investing in Will Levis and retaining Ryan Tannehill, Willis may not have a future in Tennessee, making him a candidate for the Eagles to explore with a low draft pick.
