As the 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline approaches in just a month, the potential for significant roster moves is heating up. One team at the center of speculation is the struggling Chicago Cubs, currently languishing in last place in the National League Central.

Amidst their disappointing season, there’s talk of a possible firesale, with star outfielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger potentially on the trading block, as reported by The Athletic’s Will Sammon, Katie Woo, and Patrick Mooney. According to sources, teams like the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers have been actively scouting the Cubs, hinting at potential interest in Bellinger.

“If the Cubs continue to struggle in the playoff race, Bellinger could become a focal point near the deadline, much like last season,” noted Sammon, Woo, and Mooney.

For the St. Louis Cardinals, who are reevaluating their outfield situation due to injuries, acquiring Bellinger could provide a much-needed offensive boost. Despite the challenge of trading within the division, Bellinger’s skill set aligns with the Cardinals’ needs, potentially making him an intriguing target as they consider becoming buyers this summer.

While trading for Bellinger remains a formidable task, given the divisional rivalry, his addition could significantly bolster St. Louis’ lineup, addressing their pressing need for offensive firepower in the outfield.
