Boston Scott The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed veteran running back Boston Scott, formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles, to their practice squad, according to multiple sources. Scott joins the Steelers’ practice squad after being released by the Los Angeles Rams. He had previously signed a one-year contract with the Rams following his departure from Philadelphia in free agency but was unable to secure a spot in their running back rotation.
Scott, originally selected in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints, played college football at Louisiana Tech. Despite his promising college career, he did not make the Saints’ 53-man roster and spent his initial NFL season on their practice squad. It was during this period that the Philadelphia Eagles acquired him, where Scott developed into a versatile and impactful player both in the backfield and as a receiver.
Throughout his NFL career, Scott has accumulated 1,295 rushing yards and 566 receiving yards, along with 1,547 return yards and 17 total touchdowns. His performance over six seasons demonstrates his ability to contribute significantly in various roles. The Steelers, facing potential injury issues within their running back corps, can rely on Scott to bring experience and skill to their practice squad.
At 29 years old and standing at just 5-foot-6, Scott’s agility and speed have been key factors in his ability to remain in the NFL despite his size. His dynamic playmaking ability provides the Steelers with a valuable asset who can step in and make an impact if needed.
In recent roster moves, the Steelers have released Jonathan Ward, Aaron Shampklin, and La’Mical Perine. There is a possibility that one of these players might return to the practice squad to join Scott, further bolstering the team’s depth at the running back position.
