The first three seasons under head coach Robert Saleh had their ups and downs. While the New York Jets have developed a Top 4 defense, their record stands at 18-33 during his tenure. The 2023 season, which had started with high hopes, derailed when future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles injury just four plays into the opener.
Despite a series of offensive line injuries and underwhelming quarterback performances leading to a second consecutive 7-10 record, Saleh was given some leeway due to the loss of Rodgers. Heading into Year 4, he faces elevated expectations.
Jets general manager Joe Douglas remains confident in Saleh’s leadership. “Robert is as positive, energetic, and communicative as ever. Experience brings comfort
and growth, and I believe he has developed into a remarkable leader,” Douglas stated after finalizing the team’s 53-man roster.
Douglas, who was instrumental in hiring Saleh after his successful tenure as the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator, praised Saleh’s leadership and communication skills. “He was a great leader from the start, and his daily energy and ability to connect with people stand out,” Douglas added.
With Rodgers back in action, a revamped offensive line, and All-Pro talent throughout the defense, Saleh is optimistic about the team’s potential. “We have a strong football team. I believe in our abilities and just want us to stay focused and ready to compete. If we do that, I’m confident we’ll see positive results,” said Saleh.
The Jets will kick off their 2024 season on September 9, facing the 49ers on the road at 8:15 pm ET.
