Newcastle Allows 21-Year-Old Academy Graduate to Depart in £35M Deal, Pursues Elanga Despite Forest’s Resistance
Newcastle eventually permitted the departure of their 21-year-old academy graduate in a £35 million transaction, with discussions hinting at Anthony Elanga potentially moving the other way as part of the deal.
Nottingham Forest remained steadfast in their refusal to entertain the notion of releasing Elanga, yet Newcastle continues to display keen interest in the 22-year-old winger.
In fact, journalist Ben Jacobs suggested on NUFC Matters that Newcastle is currently leading the race to secure Elanga’s signature, despite Forest’s firm stance against selling.
“Elanga will be highly sought after, and at present, Newcastle are among the frontrunners. The challenge lies in their previous attempt with Elliot Anderson, which Forest rejected outright.
“Forest’s position remains resolute—they intend to retain Elanga, and only a substantial offer will alter that.”
Nottingham Forest evidently values Anthony Elanga at more than £35 million, based on their handling of Anderson’s transfer negotiations. Although details about what constitutes a ‘substantial offer’ for Forest are unclear, it’s evident they value Elanga highly.
The Swedish international showcased his versatility last season at Forest, making 39 appearances, scoring five goals, and providing nine assists. Notably, he excelled on the left wing in goal-scoring roles and on the right wing as a provider.
Should Newcastle secure Elanga’s services, he is expected to primarily feature as a right winger, although negotiations appear to be ongoing.
