Larry Borom With the 2024 NFL season just around the corner, the Chicago Bears’ 53-man roster has largely adhered to expectations, with fewer surprises than in previous years. Our projections on the Halas Huddle podcast came close to accurately reflecting the final roster, though we missed a few details. Notably, we anticipated most of the cuts and additions but overlooked the inclusion of Travis Homer and misjudged one of the injured reserve (IR) spots. While we correctly predicted Larry Borom’s placement on IR, we missed on Jacob Martin, who was instead listed as our backup IR candidate.
One surprising development was the status of Reddy Steward. Although we had anticipated him making the final roster, Steward was ultimately waived and cleared to join the Bears’ practice squad. Despite this setback, Steward has shown a strong instinct for the football and could become a valuable contributor in the defensive backfield if given a chance. However, given the Bears’ depth and strength in their cornerback room, finding a spot for Steward on the field may prove challenging.
The NFL’s roster landscape is notoriously fluid. The 53-man roster announced at the beginning of the season rarely remains unchanged by the end. Injuries often play a significant role in altering team rosters, but so do changes in performance and team needs. As the season progresses, teams frequently reassess their rosters, with practice squad players being promoted and new talent being brought in to address evolving needs.
With this in mind, let’s examine three players currently on the Bears’ roster who might not make it past Week 5. Their positions and performance will be under close scrutiny, and changes could be imminent based on their contributions and the team’s evolving needs. As the season unfolds, it’s common for teams to make adjustments to better position themselves for success, so these players could find themselves at risk if they don’t make a strong impression early on.
