In a recent report by the West Australian, it was revealed that an increasing number of Eagles players do not envision Adam Simpson continuing as head coach in 2025, amid the club’s most challenging period in its 37-year history.
When questioned on Friday, the coach, who led the team to a premiership in 2018, remained firm that he had the support of the majority but acknowledged that dissatisfaction among players is inevitable in the pursuit of improvement.
“It’s not an ideal situation, but it’s not uncommon either,” Simpson told reporters. “It happens frequently in football; it happened when I worked under Dennis (Pagan) and during my time with Clarko. We need to accept it and move forward.”
Regarding his confidence in the team’s backing, Simpson stated, “I believe I still have the players’ support. We have 15-20 players not in the starting lineup every week and 10 players facing delisting at the end of the season. There will always be discontented individuals, but that’s part of the job as we strive to improve.”
Expressing frustration over how the news broke, Simpson emphasized his immediate focus on uniting the players ahead of their upcoming match against Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.
“It’s unfortunate how the information was leaked. My priority today is to unify the team,” Simpson asserted.
