The Boston Red Sox are expected to be highly active in free agency this winter. After a season where they exceeded expectations and remained just three games away from an American League Wild Card spot, Boston has demonstrated that they are a team worth investing in. Despite facing numerous injuries and having low preseason expectations, they have performed admirably.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Red Sox could become strong contenders in the American League with a successful offseason. One player likely to be high on their wish list is former New York Yankees star and current New York Mets pitcher Luis Severino.
Severino, who will be a free agent at season’s end, has shown he still has considerable talent with a 3.74 ERA across 28 starts this year. Spotrac estimates he could secure a $48 million contract over four years. The Red Sox had shown interest in Severino last offseason before he signed with the Mets, and they recently saw his prowess firsthand when he stifled their offense in a recent series.
At just 30 years old, Severino is expected to be among the more affordable top-tier pitchers available this winter. If Boston is looking to add a high-quality pitcher at a reasonable cost, Severino could be an ideal candidate.
