The Kansas City Chiefs are adding veteran free agent running back Kareem Hunt to their practice squad, as reported by NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero on September 17.
Pelissero shared that, following an injury to Isiah Pacheco, the Chiefs have brought Hunt—who was originally drafted by the team in 2017—back for a workout. This move suggests Hunt could see playing time soon.
Jason Anderson of Sports Radio 810 WHB had hinted at this possibility a day earlier, noting that while a reunion with Hunt seemed unlikely at first, it was a real possibility for the reigning Super Bowl champions.
Hunt, now 29, was a third-round draft pick for the Chiefs in 2017 and made an immediate impact during his rookie year, recording 1,327 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. However, his time with the team ended in December 2018 following an incident in which he was caught on video assaulting a woman, leading to his release after misleading the team about the situation.
Now, six years later, the Chiefs appear ready to move past the past and bring Hunt back as they aim for a third consecutive championship.
