The Cincinnati Bengals typically don’t engage in trade discussions with other teams before the deadline. Their last mid-season trade was sending quarterback Carson Palmer to the Raiders in October 2011, and before that, you’d have to go back to 1972.
Given this history, it seems unlikely they will make any roster additions through trades before the November 4 deadline. However, ESPN’s Dan Graziano suggests the Bengals could be a good fit for Broncos defensive tackle DJ Jones if Denver decides to trade him.
Jones, who signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Broncos before the 2022 season, is in the final year of that deal. With the Broncos not appearing competitive in the AFC West, they might consider moving Jones and his $10 million salary this season.
Graziano notes that while Jones will turn 30 in January, making a long-term extension unlikely, he could be valuable as a short-term addition for a contender. The Cincinnati Bengals are currently dealing with injuries at the position, as both starting defensive tackles, Sheldon Rankins and BJ Hill, suffered hamstring injuries in Week 2. They’ve already had to sign Lawrence Guy from free agency to address these issues.
Bringing in another strong player like Jones could be beneficial, especially if the Bengals continue to have difficulties against the run as the season progresses.
What are your thoughts on a potential trade to acquire Jones?
