Championships may not be won in September, but Cleveland Cavaliers president Koby Altman is definitely impressed with one player’s performance this month: Ty Jerome.
At a press conference on Friday, Altman praised Jerome and gave him a noteworthy title.
“He (Jerome) had a really good offseason,” Altman said, according to Tony Pesta of Fear The Sword. “If I had to pick an MVP of September for open gym, it would be him. While September doesn’t mean much, he’s been playing exceptionally well.”
Jerome signed with the Cavaliers last summer but only appeared in two games last season due to an ankle injury. However, he may have a chance for a bigger role in the 2024-25 NBA season.
The 27-year-old has shown potential in the past, particularly during the 2022-23 season with the Golden State Warriors, where he played in 45 games and averaged 6.9 points and three assists in 18.1 minutes per game, shooting 48.8% from the field and 38.9% from beyond the arc.
Jerome started his career with the Phoenix Suns in 2019, spent a couple of years with the Oklahoma City Thunder, and then moved to the Warriors before joining Cleveland.
Standing at 6-foot-5, Jerome has excellent size for a combo guard and could serve as a valuable scoring option off the bench for the Cavs. While he may not become a starter, he has the potential to establish an important role this season.
