Head coach Matt LaFleur of the Green Bay Packers looks on during the first half against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on September 10, 2023, in Chicago, Illinois.
Romeo Doubs’ absence from Sunday’s game against the Rams has created buzz in Green Bay.
The Packers wide receiver’s suspension, due to missed practices last week, has raised concerns about his role in the offense.
Reports indicate that Doubs’ frustration with his involvement in the passing game may have contributed to his absence from practice.
Despite this challenge, LaFleur remains hopeful about Doubs’ future with the team. He plans to meet with Doubs on Monday and is confident about his return to the field this week.
“I’m looking forward to our conversation tomorrow,” LaFleur said, according to The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman. “I fully expect him to come back and be ready to work.”
LaFleur also acknowledged the distractions present in the NFL and life, commending his team for staying focused amid the circumstances.
“You’ve got to do your best to focus on the task at hand, and I thought our guys handled it pretty well,” LaFleur noted.
Doubs’ dissatisfaction is surprising considering his important role in the team’s first four games, where he started each match and logged more snaps than any other Packers receiver.
While his targets decreased during backup quarterback Malik Willis’ time, this shift towards a run-heavy offense was not a deliberate slight towards Doubs.
LaFleur’s upcoming meeting with Doubs could be key to reenergizing the receiver’s motivation and highlighting the link between practice effort and playing time.
If the conversation goes well, Packers fans might see Doubs back in action against the Cardinals next Sunday.
