The Cincinnati Reds have made roster adjustments to facilitate the return of Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Matt McLain from the 60-day injured list. Both players have completed their rehabilitation assignments in the Arizona Fall League, which have reached the maximum duration allowed.

To clear space on the 40-man roster for Encarnacion-Strand and McLain, MLB Insider Robert Murray reports that the team has designated left-handed pitcher Brandon Leibrandt and infielder Amed Rosario for assignment. This move is crucial for enabling both players to rejoin the team as they aim to strengthen the Reds’ postseason aspirations. The organization is optimistic that these additions will enhance their performance as the season progresses.

Amed Rosario’s Time with the Reds Ends

Amed Rosario’s tenure with the Reds has come to a close after a season spent with three teams. He began the year with the Tampa Bay Rays after signing a one-year contract during the offseason. He was later traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers to help with positional depth amid injuries on their roster. The Reds claimed Rosario off waivers on August 18 after the Dodgers designated him for assignment.

Despite his departure, Rosario proved to be a valuable offensive asset. He posted a solid batting line of .280/.306/.438 while playing various positions, including second base, shortstop, third base, and right field. Rosario stepped in as a viable option at third base, especially as Noelvi Marte struggled upon returning from an 80-game suspension.

Brandon Leibrandt was drafted in the sixth round by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2014 MLB Draft. He worked his way through the minor leagues and reached Triple-A in 2018. Unfortunately, injuries affected his career, leading to his release by the Phillies in 2020. Leibrandt then joined the Miami Marlins and made his MLB debut that summer. He pitched a total of 9 innings with the Marlins in 2020 and contributed 6 1/3 innings with the Reds in 2024.
