Mitchell Robinson, currently rehabbing from an injury and without a clear recovery timeline, expressed optimism about his progress but resisted pressure to return too quickly. “You saw what happened when I rushed back before—I ended up out again,” Robinson said during a livestream on Thursday. “I need to prioritize my long-term health. We’ll be okay. I promise you.”
Robinson hasn’t spoken to the media since his left ankle surgery in May, which was deemed a “minor” procedure with a reevaluation scheduled for six to eight weeks. More than five months later, he has yet to return to practice and missed Friday’s game against the Pacers.

A source indicated that Robinson might return in December or January, depending on his recovery. “Rehab is going great; I’m proud of my progress from last week,” he noted, adding that there are good signs.
Robinson’s recovery has faced challenges, especially considering he missed 50 games last season due to a stress fracture in his right ankle. He also underwent multiple surgeries in the past few years, which has influenced his focus on long-term health.
The Knicks have adjusted their strategy, acquiring Karl-Anthony Towns following Isaiah Hartenstein’s departure, and Robinson noted he enjoys working with Towns. “He’s a great guy,” he said, adding that they have a good time in the weight room.
Robinson, a crucial part of the Knicks‘ rebounding and defense, had previously been the NBA’s leading offensive rebounder before his injuries. He mentioned wanting to experiment with a more aggressive defensive approach this season, but emphasized he won’t rush back to the court, as he has two years left on his contract.
