The bye week has come at an ideal time for the Texas Longhorns.
They recently faced two demanding games against Georgia and Vanderbilt, and they’ve also dealt with several injuries.
One key player affected is starting safety Andrew Mukuba, who hurt his left knee in the loss to Georgia. He missed the remainder of that game and was sidelined for the matchup against Vanderbilt a week later.
However, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian reported that Mukuba is showing signs of recovery.
“He’s on the mend and making good progress,” Sarkisian said during the SEC Teleconference on Wednesday. “We should have a clearer update next week as we get ready for game week.”
Before his injury, Mukuba was having an outstanding season, recording two interceptions and 25 total tackles.
Fortunately, the Longhorns managed to cope without him last week against Vanderbilt, thanks to strong performances from Michael Taaffe and Jelani McDonald.
They are hopeful to have Mukuba back after the bye week as they prepare to host the Florida Gators in Austin on November 9.
