The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to make a big splash in the offseason free-agent market, and there’s an intriguing opportunity for them to add a first-time All-Star who could enhance their World Series aspirations. With a strong class of free agents available, the Phillies could make a significant move if they pursue one standout option: Jurickson Profar.
Profar, who earned his first All-Star selection in 2024, is expected to be available for the right deal this winter. According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, Profar is coming off a breakout season with the San Diego Padres, where he hit 24 home runs, drove in 85 RBIs, and posted an .839 OPS over 158 games. Feinsand linked the Phillies as a potential landing spot for the 31-year-old left fielder, who is now set to secure a much larger contract after his successful one-year, $1 million deal with the Padres.
Profar’s 2024 season was impressive not only in terms of power but also in terms of plate discipline. The 6-foot, 184-pound outfielder ranked in the 88th percentile or higher for several key metrics, including chase rate (21.9%), whiff rate (16.9%), strikeout rate (15.1%), and walk rate (11.4%). These numbers suggest that Profar is one of the more technically refined sluggers in the game, with a disciplined approach that could give the Phillies a valuable and consistent bat.
With Philadelphia also exploring possible trades involving left fielder Brandon Marsh, Profar could serve as a worthy upgrade both offensively and defensively. Should the Phillies move Marsh, adding a player like Profar would provide them with a versatile, productive outfielder to bolster their lineup and further their championship chase.
