“Richmond’s Rising Star Samson Ryan Signs Three-Year Contract Extension, Committing to Club Until 2027
The 206cm forward/ruckman, originally drafted from Queensland as pick No. 40 in the 2020 AFL National Draft, has inked a new deal, solidifying his future with the Tigers. Ryan’s extension ensures he remains a pivotal part of the team, having already made 19 AFL appearances.”
“Across four seasons at the Club, the 23-year-old has shown steady development, proving himself as both a reliable ruckman and key forward option.
Last season, Ryan showcased his capability by playing 14 consecutive AFL games from Round Two to Round 16, scoring 12 goals in the process.”
“The young tall started the AFL season in the Opening Round before moving back to VFL, where he excelled as a standout performer in the state league.
During this stint, Ryan scored 12 goals from seven matches and averaged 24 hit outs per game, which led to his return to the senior team for the Dreamtime at the ‘G event.
In Round 13, the 23-year-old scored two goals against the Cats and contributed to the win against Adelaide, but an ankle injury sidelined him for the last two matches.”
Richmond General Manager of Football Talent, Blair Hartley, expressed optimism about Ryan’s progress.
“Samson has demonstrated the potential to establish himself as a reliable AFL player, and his versatility in both ruck and forward positions presents a formidable challenge for opponents,” Hartley remarked.
“His dedicated work ethic is commendable, and we are confident that over the next three years, he will strive to elevate his performance to new heights.
“We eagerly anticipate Samson’s continued development, which promises exciting prospects for our team.”
