WESTFIELD – The Indianapolis Colts, facing a series of injuries at the defensive end position during training camp, have moved to strengthen their edge-rushing depth by signing Levi Bell.
Bell, a 6-foot-1, 275-pound defensive end from Texas State, has spent most of the past season on the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad. He also showcased his skills in the USFL, where he recorded four sacks with the Michigan Panthers during the 2023 season. Although he signed on to play in the UFL this year, he had not yet appeared in any games.
The Colts’ defensive line has been significantly impacted by injuries. They recently lost starting defensive end Samson Ebukam to a torn Achilles tendon. Additionally, second-year edge rusher Titus Leo suffered a left knee injury that required further evaluation, and Dayo Odeyingbo has been sidelined with an ankle injury for the past few days.
Despite these setbacks, the Colts are keeping their roster near the 90-man limit, a common practice among NFL teams early in training camp to manage player workloads. Bell faces a challenging path to securing a roster spot, given the competitive nature of the Colts’ defensive line.
Indianapolis still has several key players in the mix, including first-round pick Laiatu Latu, returning starter Kwity Paye, Odeyingbo, and veteran Tyquan Lewis. The team is also evaluating veteran Genard Avery and promising second-year player Isaiah Land to fill the role left vacant by Ebukam’s injury.
