After more than a year of anticipation, Tom Brady is on track to secure his ownership stake in the Las Vegas Raiders in the near future.
Brady, who recently wrapped up his debut weekend as FOX’s lead NFL analyst, is expected to see his long-awaited ownership share in the Raiders approved by the end of the 2024 season, if not sooner, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
The league has delayed approval of this stake since the initial reports of Brady’s interest in joining Mark Davis as a part-owner emerged in May 2023. Brady’s proposed 10% share in the team has faced numerous hurdles, but it appears that these issues are now being resolved.
Rapoport revealed that many of the concerns, such as the valuation of Brady’s stake and his role as a FOX broadcaster, have been addressed. The situation has reportedly improved significantly, leading to an expected move from the finance committee to a full ownership vote. This vote requires approval from three-fourths of the current owners to pass.
However, Brady’s new role as a minority owner will come with certain restrictions that will impact his broadcasting duties. Specifically, he will be barred from accessing other teams’ facilities, observing practices, and participating in production meetings. While his production team will be present at these meetings, Brady himself will not be directly involved.
As of now, Mark Davis, the owner of the Raiders, has not commented on the latest developments regarding Brady’s ownership stake.
Brady expressed his enthusiasm about the opportunity to become a part-owner of the Raiders in an interview with the Associated Press last year. “Growing up in the Bay Area, my favorite team was the 49ers, but the Raiders were also a team I admired across the bay. They’re an iconic NFL franchise,” Brady said. He reflected on the impact of Al Davis, the Raiders’ former owner, noting, “Al Davis was one of the most influential figures in the NFL, and although he is no longer with us, his legacy remains strong. The chance to become a minority owner of the Raiders is truly a dream come true for me.”
With the resolution of the valuation and other related issues, it seems Brady’s dream of owning a piece of the Raiders is finally within reach, pending the final approval from the league’s ownership committee.
